In a significant development, jailed gangsters Neeraj Bawana and Naveen Dabas alias Bali were questioned by Delhi Police's Special Cell about a recent murder at a Rajouri Garden food outlet, according to officials on Friday. The two, known associates of the fugitive Spain-based gangster Himanshu Bhau, reportedly took to social media to claim responsibility for the homicide, saying it was in retaliation for the murder of Bawana's cousin, Shakti Singh, in October 2020.

The recent victim, Aman Joon, aged 26, was fatally shot while seated with a woman inside a Burger King outlet in Rajouri Garden's J Block on Tuesday. Authorities believe Joon previously tipped off gangster Ashok Pradhan about Shakti Singh's whereabouts, which led to Singh's murder. This has triggered a series of retaliatory killings.

Despite being taken into custody and interrogated by two separate Special Cell teams, both Bawana and Bali have denied involvement in Joon's murder. Bawana has been imprisoned in Tihar since 2015, and Bali since 2013, both facing multiple charges including extortion and violations of the Arms Act. The ongoing gang conflicts have led to other violent incidents, including the 2021 killing of Pradeep alias Kala Khairampuria and the shooting of Joon in a previous altercation, sources said.
