A contingent of 23 senior Sri Lankan police officers is undergoing a specialized two-week training course in New Delhi, commencing June 18, according to the Indian High Commission.

In response to a request from Sri Lanka Police, India's High Commission is facilitating these tailor-made capacity-building courses at premier institutions like the Central Detective Training Institutes in Jaipur, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, as well as the National Security Guard in Manesar.

The initiative is part of the 'Aid to Sri Lanka' program and Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) scheme. Since 2024, over 60 police officers from Sri Lanka have benefited from these courses, which cover subjects such as crime scene management, artificial intelligence, cyber crime investigation, and VIP security. More than 130 Sri Lankan officers are expected to be trained in India this year.

The announcement follows External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's visit to Sri Lanka, where he met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe to discuss ongoing projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing India-Sri Lanka partnerships across multiple sectors, including energy and physical infrastructure.
