The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has granted permission for Rameshwar Parmar, currently under judicial custody for his alleged involvement in a Rs 64 crore drainage scam, to attend the preliminary test for the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) on June 23.

On Thursday, Justice Vinay Saraf directed jail authorities to make arrangements for Parmar's transportation to and from the examination center. The directive came in response to Parmar's petition seeking temporary release to take part in the exam.

The MPPSC prelim test, scheduled for June 23, will witness the participation of 1.83 lakh candidates vying for 110 posts, including deputy district magistrates and deputy superintendents of police. Parmar, serving as an assistant auditor with the Indore Municipal Corporation, was implicated and arrested for sanctioning payments on fraudulent drainage work claims.

Justice Saraf noted that, given the importance of the examination and the availability of Parmar's admit card, it was justified to allow him to take the exam under police custody. Accordingly, the high court directed the jail authorities to ensure Parmar's attendance.

The Rs 64 crore drainage scam involved fake bills submitted by ten contracting firms for drainage projects. The scam led to the arrest of nine contractors and eight municipal employees, including Parmar, for fraudulent activities and improper checks on submitted bills.
