Days after facing assault and mental torture accusations from his wife, hotelier Prahlad Advani claimed on Thursday that matrimonial discord was at the core of these allegations.

Advani criticized the use of police machinery to hold him and his family "at ransom" to settle personal disputes.

A legal team representing Advani and his family dismissed the allegations in the First Information Report registered at Worli police station as "reckless, baseless and false."

"This clearly is an attempt to malign the reputation of the husband, his senior citizen parents, and the listed entity," the statement from Advani's team asserted.

According to the statement, the allegations came after Advani expressed his intent to divorce his wife through a notice dated April 15.

The legal team emphasized that a petition for divorce was already pending in family court, and the wife had also filed a domestic violence complaint in magistrate's court.

"With the documentary evidence in our possession, we will show that the allegations are completely false. We plan to cooperate fully with the police to demonstrate the inaccuracies and fabrications in the complaint," the statement read.

In her complaint, Advani's wife also named his elderly parents, alleging she was subjected to torture between November 2012 and June 12, 2024.

The police said they registered a case of criminal breach of trust, voluntarily causing hurt, and intentional insult based on her complaint.
