President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has highlighted the crucial role of a strong partnership between South Africa and Nigeria for the success of the African continent. This came after a bilateral meeting with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu in Tshwane, following Ramaphosa's inauguration for a second term.

Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of robust economic ties between South Africa and Nigeria, noting that the collaboration between these two influential African nations would benefit the entire continent. He pointed out that when South Africa and Nigeria work together, they create positive outcomes for Africa, particularly through their joint efforts in international forums such as the United Nations and other multilateral institutions.

Domestically, Ramaphosa remarked that the African continent has responded positively to South Africa's Government of National Unity. He expressed satisfaction with the setup of the Government of National Unity, which he believes will stabilize the country's politics and lay a strong foundation for economic growth and investment attraction.

Tinubu, who attended the inauguration ceremony, praised Ramaphosa for successfully establishing the Government of National Unity. He highlighted that this political stability is vital during challenging times and stressed the importance of collaborative economic initiatives to support vulnerable populations across Africa.

The inauguration on Wednesday, which marked the beginning of Ramaphosa's second term, followed the National and Provincial Elections held on May 29, 2024. The elections resulted in no outright majority, necessitating cooperation among different political formations to move the country forward.
