Gregory Peter Blanchard Appointed as High Court Judge

Justice Blanchard's appointment as a High Court Judge will take effect on 1 July, and he will be serving in Auckland.

Attorney-General Judith Collins today announced the appointment of Auckland King’s Counsel Gregory Peter Blanchard as a High Court Judge.

Justice Blanchard attended the University of Auckland from 1991 to 1995, graduating with an LLB (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts in English. He began his legal career as a solicitor with the firm now known as Dentons Kensington Swan in Auckland from 1996 to 1999.

In 2000, he moved to the United Kingdom and worked for the London law firm Baker McKenzie until 2002. Upon returning to New Zealand in 2003, he rejoined Dentons Kensington Swan, where he became a partner in 2004.

Justice Blanchard transitioned to a barrister sole in 2008, establishing a wide-ranging commercial litigation practice. His expertise and contributions to the legal field were recognized in 2017 when he was appointed Queen’s Counsel.
