Labour & Employment Secretary Sumita Dawra has applauded the recent automation measures implemented by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to streamline claim settlements and minimize rejections, according to an official statement released on Friday.

During a review meeting held on Thursday to discuss EPFO reforms, Dawra emphasized the importance of close coordination among officials to establish an effective social security system. The EPFO is currently overhauling its application software to introduce a Universal Account Number (UAN) based single accounting system for each member, combined with process flow automation to ensure faster claim settlements with minimal human intervention.

This new software is being developed in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).

The meeting underscored the necessity of expanding social security measures and launching new initiatives aimed at improving both the ease of living and doing business. Reforms in Litigation Management and Audit operations were also discussed. Approximately 2.5 million advance claims have already been processed automatically, with over half of illness claims now being settled within three days due to this automation.

An official statement highlighted a threefold increase in auto transfers, rising from 200,000 in April 2024 to 600,000 in May 2024. Furthermore, the requirement for bank account cheque book/passbook uploads linked to KYC Aadhaar accounts has been eliminated, simplifying the scrutiny process for nearly 1.3 million claims in the past month.
