The implementation of the Kurram peace deal is set to commence on January 4, marked by a passenger convoy traveling to Parachinar under security protection, Ary News reported. As part of the agreement from the grand Jirga, all bunkers are to be dismantled within 15 days, with arms subsequently collected and surrendered to the government. The initiative aims to restore normalcy post-handovers and demolitions.
Despite the peace deal's announcement, sit-in protests continue in Parachinar and Baggan areas of Lower Kurram. Protestors demand the government guarantee security by reopening all roads, including the main highway. In Baggan, demonstrators have vowed to persist until complete disarmament and bunker demolition. Compensation for damaged shops and homes in Baggan Bazaar is also sought.
The three-week grand Jirga aimed at resolving Kurram's unrest concluded successfully, with both sides agreeing to follow the Apex Committee's decisions. To ensure compliance, a 16-member committee, with representatives from both parties, will be formed. Furthermore, a government-supervised plan for weapon collection will be developed, according to Ary News.
Abdullah Khan, a Jirga member, announced the removal of bunkers and fortifications from Teri Mangal to Chehri. All roads, including Tal-Parachinar Road, will be reopened for public access, reported Ary News. (ANI)
