AAP Protests Stir Controversy in Delhi Assembly's Budget Session

AAP MLAs staged a walkout during the Delhi Assembly's budget session, protesting the Speaker's decision to skip one of its legislators under Rule 280 discussions, citing repetition. The incident, termed as a 'strategic disruption,' coincided with the BJP-led government preparing to table a significant CAG report.

During the first day of the budget session in the Delhi Assembly, AAP MLAs staged a notable walkout. The protest erupted when Speaker Vijender Gupta omitted an AAP legislator's name from discussions under Rule 280, citing redundancy.

Rule 280 permits MLAs to voice issues from their constituencies, but AAP's objection, led by Leader of Opposition Atishi, manifested strongly as they exited the assembly in protest. Speaker Gupta warned against such 'strategic disruption' and hinted at political motives, with the upcoming tabling of the CAG report on the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

Meanwhile, Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, also the finance portfolio holder, is set to present the BJP government's initial budget in over two decades, following their recent electoral victory over AAP. The session opened with a traditional 'kheer' ceremony.
