In a significant trilateral development, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and China have forged a pact to establish an intermodal cargo terminal at the Port of Baku in Alat. This agreement was clinched on the sidelines of COP29, Astana News has reported.

The strategic terminal will feature a versatile cargo area, a 5,000-square-meter indoor storage complex, and a container yard with a capacity exceeding 1,000 containers, according to a press release from Kazakhstan Temir Zholy. An integral part of this initiative is Azerbaijan's provision of the necessary infrastructure at the Port of Baku, a crucial logistics hub for Europe and Asia, highlighted by Astana Times.

The Port of Baku, instrumental in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, is renowned for its efficient cargo services and commitment to sustainability, proudly boasting the "Eco Ports" certification since 2019. This project is poised to elevate container train traffic on the China-Europe axis via the Trans-Caspian route, streamlining delivery periods and cost-efficiency, as noted by Astana Times and furthering 11 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
