The Afghan community in India is grappling with a critical shortage of consular staff, a problem that has intensified over the past three years. Afghan diplomats, once stationed at the Afghan Embassy and Consulates in India, have sought asylum in Western countries, leaving a significant void in essential services for Afghans living in India.

Despite these challenges, a lone former diplomat has managed to keep the Afghan Mission operational. However, the need for additional staff is pressing to adequately serve the Afghan community residing in the country. A young Afghan academic, familiar to India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and educated in the country, has volunteered to step in as a diplomat at the Afghan Consulate, reflecting his commitment to support fellow Afghans.

The issue of recognizing the Afghan government remains delicate, with India maintaining its collaboration with the international community to address it. Guided by historical ties, UN resolutions, and an emphasis on humanitarian aid, India continues to provide educational opportunities through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations scholarship, having admitted over 3000 Afghan students since 2021.
