A devastating incident unfolded in Zhuhai, South China, as a vehicle ploughed into a group of pedestrians at a sports centre, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 35 lives and leaving 43 others severely injured. Reports from local media on Tuesday cited police sources in the wake of the catastrophic event.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for all-out efforts to treat the injured from Monday's horrific accident in Guangdong Province, stressing the importance of saving lives. The 62-year-old suspect, identified only by his surname Fan, faced arrest by authorities as he attempted to flee the scene of the crime.
Fan, who was found with severe self-inflicted neck injuries, remains hospitalized and unconscious, presenting a challenge for law enforcement as they await the opportunity to interrogate him. Both President Xi and Premier Li Qiang have emphasized the need for a swift and rigorous investigation, pledging severe punishment for the perpetrator in alignment with legal standards.
