In a striking move signaling his firm stance on immigration, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Tom Homan as the leader responsible for the nation's borders. Trump's announcement, made on Truth Social and reported by CNN, designates Homan as the 'Border Czar,' tasked with overseeing all borders, including those to the south, north, and along maritime and aviation routes.

During his campaign against Democratic rival Kamala Harris, Trump pledged to execute the largest deportation effort in U.S. history. Echoing this promise, the president-elect stated that Homan, an experienced immigration enforcer, will head up efforts to deport illegal immigrants. Trump praised Homan's capabilities in a social media post, emphasizing his effectiveness at managing border security and deportations.

Homan, a career officer with a history in law enforcement, was the face of the previous Trump administration's stringent immigration policies before his 2018 retirement. CNN reports that during his tenure, Homan led initiatives that saw a record number of immigrant children in custody, and controversially stated his agency's intent to detain undocumented individuals coming forward to care for these children.
