In a startling escalation of drone warfare, Russia and Ukraine were locked in intense aerial assaults over the weekend. According to CNN, Russia launched an unprecedented 145 drones in a single night, targeting Ukrainian territories.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that 34 Ukrainian drones made their way toward Moscow, all reportedly intercepted by air defenses early Sunday. Moscow's governor, Andrey Vorobyov, specified the regions of Ramenskoye, Kolomna, and Domodedovo as the sites of these interceptions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy decried these actions as terror attacks, calling for decisive international responses. The conflict, which has seen airstrikes become a near-daily occurrence, has claimed thousands of civilian lives since February 2022.
