In response to the arrest of Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) leaders under the Anti-Terrorism Act, supporters took to the streets of Quetta and other cities. The protestors condemned what they claim are fabricated charges against key party figures, including Sardar Akhtar Mengal.
Gathering outside the Quetta Press Club, BNP leaders denounced the government's actions as a political maneuver to suppress dissent. The party's deputy secretary general, Malik Naseer Ahmed Shahwani, reiterated BNP's unwavering dedication to democratic principles and the advocacy of peoples' rights despite government pressure.
The protests, which also occurred in towns like Gwadar, Khuzdar, and Turbat, demanded the immediate release of former MPAs. The demonstrators argued that the cases represent an affront to civil liberties and human rights, with BNP representatives calling for urgent governmental accountability.
