Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has emphasized India's commitment to providing financial aid to its neighboring countries without any attached conditions, often preceding initiatives from international bodies such as the IMF. At a recent panel discussion organized by the Center for Global Development, she discussed India's efforts in extending lines of credit to African nations for institutional and infrastructural development.

Sitharaman pointed out the sluggish pace of the IMF, stating that India's assistance often arrives sooner in distressed regions. She emphasized the importance of this support, not as a boast but as a responsibility, reflecting India's cultural values and the significance of these nations to India.

During her U.S. visit, the Finance Minister will participate in various international meetings, including the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings, to further discuss global financial issues. Her agenda includes bilateral meetings with several international leaders, underlining India's role as a proactive supporter of global development, particularly within the Global South.
