Hezbollah has officially acknowledged the death of its executive council head, Hashem Safieddine, following an Israeli airstrike in Beirut, as reported by CNN. Safieddine, considered a potential successor to the recently deceased Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, met his end in an assault targeting Hezbollah's intelligence operations in the Dahiyeh suburb.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that Safieddine was among those killed, alongside Ali Hussein Hazima, the Commander of Hezbollah's Intelligence Headquarters. The strike occurred on October 4, with the IDF asserting that over 25 members of Hezbollah's intelligence division were present at the location, situated beneath residential buildings.
Safieddine, a cousin to Hassan Nasrallah, played a pivotal role within Hezbollah, including filling in as Secretary-General during Nasrallah's absences. The IDF stated that Safieddine and Hazima were instrumental in directing numerous attacks against Israel. Both leaders' deaths signify a critical blow to Hezbollah's operational capabilities.
