Protests Ignite Political Turmoil in Bangladesh: President Shahabuddin's Resignation Demanded

Protesters in Bangladesh, led by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, have besieged the presidential palace demanding President Shahabuddin's resignation. Demonstrations for a new constitution and disqualification of MPs continue to escalate. An interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been established following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation.

Protesters in Bangladesh have intensified their demands for political change by besieging Banga Bhaban, the presidential palace, calling for the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin. The demonstrators, led by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, have outlined a five-point plan, which includes the president's resignation, announced during a rally at Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.

As night fell, the protestors marched towards Banga Bhaban only to face blockades set up by the army. Undeterred, they rallied outside the premises, vocally demanding Shahabuddin's departure, citing his alleged allegiance to an authoritarian government under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The movement has further demanded the redrafting of Bangladesh's 1972 constitution and the banning of the Awami League's student organization, Bangladesh Chhatra League. They've also called for the annulment of elections held under Hasina, declaring these polls illegal. Such political unrest has led to Prime Minister Hasina's resignation and her subsequent departure to India, with an interim government now in place under Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus.
