Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for Kazan, Russia, on Tuesday to participate in the 16th BRICS Summit, scheduled from October 22 to 24. This year's summit is chaired by Russia and carries the theme 'Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security.'
During the summit, Modi is expected to engage in bilateral discussions with leaders from BRICS member countries and other invited nations. The key agenda includes enhancing economic cooperation, addressing climate change, and fostering digital inclusion. This marks Modi's second visit to Russia in 2024, following his July trip for the India-Russia Annual Summit.
Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar emphasized India's commitment to BRICS, citing economic collaboration and the settlement of trade in national currencies as focal points. Kumar noted the potential for further cooperation with the international community, especially from the Global South, at this influential meeting.
