The Indian Navy's fast attack craft, INS Kalpeni, docked at Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Saturday, receiving a cordial welcome from the Sri Lankan Navy. The visit aims to strengthen maritime cooperation between both nations, aligning with India's Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) policy.

Sharing details on social media platform X, the Indian Navy stated, "INS Kalpeni arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on October 19, 2024." The post highlighted the warm reception extended by the Sri Lankan Navy, emphasizing the goal of bolstering maritime ties in accordance with SAGAR vision.

During the port call, the Indian Navy's personnel plan to engage in official discussions and social gatherings with their Sri Lankan counterparts. A statement from the High Commission of India noted that Commander Sunil Kulhari would meet Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe during the vessel's stay.

Commissioned in 2010, INS Kalpeni, part of the Car Nicobar class, primarily focuses on coastal surveillance and defense. Its visit, scheduled from October 19-21, 2024, is deemed an Operational Turn Around. The crew will also deliver technical support tools to the Sri Lankan Navy, marking continued bilateral collaboration.

This visit aligns with India's 'Neighbourhood First' approach and SAGAR vision, according to a press release. Earlier this year, another vessel, INS Kabra, made a similar port call in Colombo, facilitating the exchange of naval and air force resources.
