A troubling incident of sexual harassment has surfaced at Islamia University's Bahawalnagar Campus as a brave female student uncovered an alleged administrative cover-up, leading to the arrest of lecturer Nadeem Ahmed. The student accused Ahmed of sending inappropriate videos and persistent harassment, prompting her to file a formal complaint with the police, reports Express Tribune.
Citing a First Information Report (FIR) filed at the City B Division police station, the report alleges that Ahmed would summon the student to his office for unwanted advances, threatening her academic standing if she resisted. Although the student initially approached the university's Anti-Harassment Cell, the administration reportedly attempted to conceal the issue, only addressing it upon police involvement, which subsequently led to Ahmed's arrest.
In response to the FIR, Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) suspended Ahmed and launched an inquiry, according to Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Kamran. The administration pledged a transparent investigation and assured swift action if Ahmed is found guilty, with results expected in 30 days. Further allegations against Ahmed include harassment from multiple female students within the Physical Education Department, with some incidents previously dismissed by the university's Anti-Harassment Cell, leading to community outcry and calls for systemic change.
