The recently held International Abhidhamma Divas brought together scholars and monks worldwide to explore how Buddha's teachings in the Pali language can provide solutions to contemporary challenges such as climate disasters and economic difficulties. The event, which witnessed participation from over 2,000 individuals, was organized by the International Buddhist Confederation alongside the Ministry of Culture.

Bhadant Rahul Bodhi Mahathero from the United Buddhist Mission emphasized the profound insights into human consciousness offered by the Abhidhamma teachings, while Bhikkhuni Shakya Dhammadina highlighted their impact on health. Scholars reiterated that Buddhist wisdom, especially the Abhidhamma, could address today's global crises.

During the Divas, Mahesh Deokar of Savitribai Phule University traced the historical journey of the Pali language across South Asia, while Pranshu Samadarshi from Nalanda University pointed out its ongoing revival due to a surge in global interest. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced various initiatives to preserve Pali, calling it the 'soul of a civilization' and underscoring the government's commitment to its preservation through digital projects and educational apps.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized Pali's significance in understanding Buddhist teachings, performing the traditional Chivar Dana ceremony, and highlighting its recognition as a classical language. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat expressed that this recognition promotes Indian culture globally, underlining the importance of ancient texts like the Abhidhamma Pitaka in enriching ethical studies.

The event also featured exhibitions on the spread of Pali and Buddha's teachings, drawing scholars and youth into discussions about the enduring significance of Pali and Buddhist wisdom in today's world. (ANI)
