In a bid to strengthen its ties with Africa, President Droupadi Murmu will embark on a historic state visit to Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi from October 13-19. This marks the first time an Indian Head of State will visit these African nations, illustrating New Delhi's commitment to nurturing relations with the continent.
MEA Secretary (Economic Relations) Dammu Ravi highlighted the importance of this visit in the context of Africa emerging as a pivotal partner for India. He stated that the visit coincides with Africa's permanent inclusion in the G20 under India's leadership in 2023—a move strongly advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The partnership between India and Africa is underscored by robust economic ties, with bilateral trade nearing USD 100 billion and investments ranging between USD 70 to 80 billion. The Indian diaspora in Africa, numbering 33.2 million, further strengthens this relationship, ensuring continued collaboration on development avenues such as credits, grants, and capacity building.
