India is committed to fostering regional cooperation but points to a specific nation's approach as a hindrance to progress within the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). This was highlighted by Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a recent media briefing.

India has been focusing its efforts on frameworks like BIMSTEC to promote regional connectivity and collaboration. SAARC, comprising countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, has faced challenges due to the actions of one member, which experts believe to be Pakistan.

In 2023, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar criticized the lack of progress, citing Pakistan's alleged support for terrorism as a barrier to effective cooperation among member states. India's stance remains firm on not engaging in trade and cooperation with nations supporting terrorism.
