Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to arrive in India on October 7 for his first standalone bilateral visit since assuming office last year, according to sources.
While attending the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, President Muizzu expressed his intention to visit India soon, emphasizing the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations.
This visit marks his second to India this year, following his attendance at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony in June. Historically, Maldivian presidents have often chosen India as their first foreign visit, a tradition Muizzu initially broke by visiting Turkiye and China. His government has taken a reconciliatory approach after previous tensions with India, with Muizzu's campaign promoting an 'India Out' stance.
