High Stakes Diplomacy: U.S. and Russia Plan Expert-Level Talks
Russia and the United States are gearing up for expert-level discussions following recent high-level meetings and talks between Presidents Putin and Trump. The focus will be on mending U.S.-Russia relations amid concerns about potential impacts on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and a reported minerals agreement.

The Kremlin announced upcoming expert-level discussions between Russia and the United States, following recent high-level engagements between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the planned talks, though details on their scheduling remain under wraps.
Peskov emphasized a mutual understanding between the two leaders about the necessity of a face-to-face meeting, pending thorough preparations. Although another phone conversation between them is possible, no such plans currently exist. Trump's proactive steps to mend ties with Moscow, in contrast to his predecessor Joe Biden's stance, have sparked concern in Kyiv and among European allies over potential sidelining.
While Putin has downplayed the possibility of a swift resolution to the Ukraine conflict, initial dialogues will aim at restoring trust between Moscow and Washington. There is speculation surrounding a possible minerals agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine, which Trump claims could benefit American taxpayers, yet no official confirmation has been issued.
