External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the continued tensions between India and China due to forward military deployments along the border. During an event hosted by the Carnegie Endowment in the US, he noted that China violated agreements to maintain border peace in 2020, leading to a prolonged standoff.

Jaishankar remarked, "In terms of our own relationship with China, it's a long story, but the short version is that we have agreements on how to keep the border peaceful and tranquil, and those agreements were violated by China in 2020. Consequently, the forward deployments of our militaries have resulted in tensions that will persist until addressed." He also pointed out that multiple rounds of military and diplomatic discussions have yet to yield a resolution.

The minister highlighted China's significant role in global manufacturing, attributing it to decades of international, primarily Western-led, collaboration with China. He stressed the complexity of trade relationships, indicating that while trade continues, it operates somewhat independently of political ties. The recent 31st meeting of the WMCC underscored both sides' commitment to peace and increased diplomatic and military contact to resolve outstanding issues.
