Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down at Philadelphia International Airport on Saturday morning to begin his three-day visit to the United States. Philadelphia, the historic site of the First and Second Continental Congresses, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, was his first stop.
Before his departure, PM Modi expressed his eagerness to join his counterparts – US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida – for the Quad Summit. The forum has become a pivotal group of like-minded nations committed to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. President Biden welcomed the Quad leaders in a post on X, emphasizing their collective goal of ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The visit includes a bilateral meeting between PM Modi and President Biden, aimed at enhancing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. The duo will explore new avenues to deepen their collaboration across various sectors. Key issues such as defence cooperation, renewed for ten years in 2015, will also be discussed. The Quad Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, home to President Biden, will follow, bringing together leaders from India, Australia, Japan, and the United States to address regional security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
During his trip, PM Modi will address the Indian diaspora at a community event in Uniondale and attend a business roundtable focusing on cutting-edge technologies. The visit will conclude with his participation in the Summit of the Future at the United Nations, an event dedicated to fostering multilateral solutions for global challenges as the UN approaches its 80th anniversary.
