Rohitkumar Vadhwana Named India's Next Ambassador to Bolivia

Rohitkumar R. Vadhwana has been appointed as India's Ambassador to Bolivia. Vadhwana currently serves as Deputy High Commissioner in Nairobi, Kenya, and is set to assume his new role shortly. Both nations share cordial relations with promising avenues for bilateral cooperation.

Rohitkumar R. Vadhwana has been appointed as India's next Ambassador to the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Wednesday. Vadhwana, an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 2010 batch, currently serves as Deputy High Commissioner at the High Commission of India in Nairobi, Kenya.

In a statement, the MEA said, "Rohitkumar R. Vadhwana (IFS: 2010), presently Deputy High Commissioner at the High Commission of India, Nairobi, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Plurinational State of Bolivia." The ministry also noted that Vadhwana is expected to take up the assignment shortly.

India and Bolivia maintain friendly and cordial relations with promising prospects for bilateral exchanges, trade, and investment. Both countries aim to enhance cooperation in sectors such as minerals, infrastructure development, health and pharmaceuticals, Information Technology, capacity building, and development cooperation. India's Embassy in Lima has been concurrently accredited to Bolivia since April 1981, and Bolivia opened a resident Mission in New Delhi in 2012. The country also has two Honorary Consuls General in La Paz and Santa Cruz.

A bust of Mahatma Gandhi, gifted by the Government of India, was unveiled in La Paz on 31 August 2021 by the Mayor of La Paz and the Indian Ambassador. The Indian community in Bolivia is engaged in various sectors including retail trade, transportation, and agriculture. Additionally, an India-Bolivia Friendship Association, known as the Asociasion de Amistad Bolivia India (AABI), was established in 2017.
