NSA Ajit Doval met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday at the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisers' meeting. Doval stressed the necessity of maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas and abiding by the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to restore normalcy in India-China bilateral relations.
The meeting provided an opportunity for India and China to review recent efforts towards early resolution of remaining issues along the LAC. Both parties agreed to work urgently and intensify their efforts to achieve complete disengagement in the disputed areas. Doval reiterated that peace in border areas and respect for LAC are vital for bilateral normalcy.
The discussion highlighted the significance of India-China relations not only bilaterally but also for regional and global stability. Additionally, Doval met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, underscoring the broader geopolitical context. Russia, holding the 2024 BRICS chairmanship, hosted the meeting with new BRICS members Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia.
