Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated on Monday that Artificial Intelligence (AI) could present a significant opportunity if approached correctly. Speaking at the University of Texas at Dallas, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha discussed concerns that AI might displace jobs.
Gandhi noted that new technologies historically shift job markets, citing examples such as computers, calculators, and ATMs. He explained that while AI will indeed take some jobs away, it will also create new roles and benefit various sectors differently. "I'm not of the view that jobs will vanish, but different types of jobs will be created and different types of systems will benefit," he asserted.
He elaborated by mentioning that India's IT industry might face significant challenges due to AI, but sectors like scooter manufacturing may remain relatively unaffected. Emphasizing positioning and flexibility, he recalled how previous technological advances like computers had created millions of jobs in India. Rahul Gandhi arrived in Dallas on Sunday for a three-day US visit and was welcomed by Indian Overseas Congress Chairman Sam Pitroda and Indian diaspora members.
