In a significant development, Dr. Kadiyam Kavya and Bharti Pardhi, both MPs, were inducted into the National Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Board. Their appointment follows the legislative mandates set by the 2021 Surrogacy and Assisted Reproductive Technology Acts.

The initiative was spearheaded by Union Health Minister J P Nadda, who initiated the process by moving a resolution in Lok Sabha. The resolution aimed to elect two female members from the Lower House for the board, a necessity following the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha.

These laws, enacted in 2021, underscore the importance of female representation on the board. A similar provision exists for a representative from the Rajya Sabha, which is a continuous house, whereas the Lok Sabha members are re-elected every five years.
