India and Brunei Elevate Relations to Enhanced Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that India and Brunei have elevated their ties to the status of an Enhanced Partnership. Speaking at a banquet hosted by Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the royal family. He pointed out that the two nations, sharing deep historical and cultural ties, will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their political relations this year.

PM Modi highlighted extensive discussions aimed at strengthening economic, scientific, and strategic cooperation. He announced agreements on long-term LNG cooperation, collaboration in the space sector, and the introduction of direct flights between the countries. The Prime Minister also emphasized mutual efforts in agriculture, industry, pharmaceuticals, health, and cyber security.

The PM praised Brunei's leadership for the country's progress and acknowledged the positive contributions of the Indian community in Brunei. Modi and Sultan Bolkiah agreed on strengthening defense cooperation and supporting freedom of navigation under international law. PM Modi's visit also included the inauguration of the Chancery of the High Commission of India and a visit to the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
