Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a historic visit to Brunei and Singapore from September 3 to September 5, according to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday. This marks the first-ever bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei.
The visit to Brunei, scheduled from September 3-4, comes at the invitation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. It coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and Brunei. The trip aims to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including defense, trade, energy, and space technology, aligning with India's 'Act East' Policy and Indo-Pacific vision.
Following his Brunei visit, PM Modi will travel to Singapore from September 4-5 at the invitation of Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong. Discussions will focus on the progress of India-Singapore Strategic Partnership and key regional and global issues. He will also meet with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and other business leaders to boost bilateral and regional collaboration. These visits are expected to fortify India's strategic ties with Brunei and Singapore.
