US President Joe Biden commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "historic visits" to Poland and Ukraine during a telephonic conversation, according to a White House statement. The leaders discussed Modi's trips to Europe and upcoming United Nations General Assembly sessions in September.

"The President praised the Prime Minister for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in decades, and for his peace message and humanitarian support for Ukraine, particularly its energy sector," read the statement. Modi and Biden reaffirmed their support for a "peaceful resolution" to the conflict as per international law and the UN Charter.

The leaders also emphasized their commitment to collaborating through regional groups like the Quad for peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. Modi briefed Biden on his recent Ukraine visit, reiterating India's stance on dialogue and diplomacy. They discussed regional and global issues, expressing support for a peaceful conflict resolution.

The call followed Modi's recent visits to Poland and Ukraine, where he emphasized peaceful conflict resolution during a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Modi reiterated India's readiness to contribute actively to peace and stability, as India has always advocated for diplomatic solutions. Russia and Ukraine have been in conflict since 2022.

The White House noted discussions on peace prospects aligned with Zelenskyy's "just peace" plan. National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby stated that Washington welcomes any country aiding Zelenskyy's peace efforts. Following the conversation, Modi tweeted about their detailed exchange on regional and global issues and expressed India's support for early peace in Ukraine.

Modi acknowledged Biden's commitment to the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. They reviewed progress in bilateral relations, emphasizing benefits for both nations and humanity. The leaders also shared concerns over Bangladesh's situation.
