Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a telephone conversation with US President Joe Biden on Monday, addressing critical regional and global issues, including the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Both leaders also voiced concerns over the state of affairs in Bangladesh, underlining the urgency for early restoration of normalcy and the security of minorities, particularly Hindus.

The dialogue followed PM Modi's recent visits to Poland and Ukraine. Modi reiterated India's unwavering support for the swift return of peace and stability. 'Spoke to @POTUS @JoeBiden on phone today. We had a detailed exchange of views on various regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine. I reiterated India's full support for early return of peace and stability,' PM Modi shared in a post on X.

'We also discussed the situation in Bangladesh and stressed on the need for early restoration of normalcy, and ensuring the safety and security of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh,' he added. His visit to Ukraine marked the first by an Indian Prime Minister to the European nation.

During a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, PM Modi emphasized India's commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. Modi asserted that India has always sided with peace. He highlighted India's readiness to play an active role in fostering peace and progress.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict, ongoing since 2022, has seen India consistently advocate for peace and diplomacy. Modi and Zelenskyy reiterated their commitment to upholding international law principles, including the UN Charter's respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty. They endorsed closer bilateral dialogues on these issues.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy expressed confidence in India's potential role in bringing peace to the troubled region. During a July visit to Russia, Modi raised the issue of child casualties in conflicts with President Vladimir Putin, calling the loss of innocent lives 'heart-wrenching' and emphasizing the universal humanitarian sentiment against such tragedies.
