The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has engaged in discussions with representatives from Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER), exploring ways to enhance reciprocal participation in trade exhibitions hosted by both nations. The talks also focused on fostering communication between business leaders to boost investments and strengthen economic cooperation.
This meeting, held at the Chamber's headquarters, saw Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI, and Mario Saenz, Director of Exports at PROCOMER, along with other officials from both sides, deliberate on expanding trade ties. The Sharjah Chamber invited the Costa Rican delegation to participate in the Emirates Perfumes and Oud Exhibition, scheduled for October 2024, while being invited to Costa Rican stands at the World of Coffee and GITEX exhibitions in Dubai.
Al Awadi emphasized the diverse prospects for commercial cooperation with Costa Rica, underpinned by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two nations. Bilateral trade, excluding oil, reached $65 million in 2023. The agreement is expected to further stimulate trade and unlock new opportunities in key sectors such as logistics, technology, and media.
The Costa Rican delegation highlighted their initiatives in technology, gaming, AI, and media, aiming to increase trade cooperation and enhance exports to the UAE, particularly in the food industry. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to fostering collaboration between business communities, urging businesses to capitalize on available trade and investment opportunities.
