UAE Shines at G20 Labour and Employment Ministers' Meeting in Brazil

Fortaleza, Brazil - The UAE showcased its pioneering efforts in technology and digital economy at the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers' Meeting, which concluded on July 26. The event focused on addressing current international labour trends and formulating effective strategies to tackle global challenges in the workplace.
Speaking at the forum, Shayma Al Awadhi, Assistant Undersecretary for Communication and International Relations at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), underscored the significance of G20 meetings as a platform for global leaders to deliberate on pressing issues. She emphasized the need for international cooperation to expedite technological advancement and governance.
Al Awadhi highlighted the UAE's considerable investments in advanced technologies under the guidance of its visionary leadership. The UAE's strategic focus on technology aims to improve lives and enhance services across sectors, particularly in human resources and employment. The country ranks 12th globally in the IMD World Digital Competitiveness ranking 2023 and plans to double its digital economy's GDP contribution over the next decade.
The forum also covered UAE's ambitious plans to invest USD 20 billion in digital technologies over the next three years. Al Awadhi noted increased investments in financial technology amounting to USD 1.3 billion, driven by the UAE's robust digital infrastructure and supportive policies. The UAE's digital services, such as the Wage Protection System (WPS) and the Smart Inspection System, demonstrate its commitment to worker welfare and technological integration.
Additionally, the UAE participated in the Just Transition Leadership Forum, discussing job creation, fair work conditions, gender pay gap reduction, and workplace diversity. The G20 meeting fostered dialogues on using technology to enhance social inclusion and alleviate poverty, emphasizing equal pay and decent work conditions for all.
