Philippine National Security Adviser Eduardo Ano has reiterated the Philippines' firm stance on its South China Sea dispute with China, Al Jazeera reported. Despite numerous confrontations with Beijing over the strategic waterway, Manila remains steadfast in its position.

In these confrontations, both sides have accused each other of dangerous maneuvers near the Second Thomas Shoal in the Spratly Islands. Ano emphasized, "We will continue to stand our ground and push back against coercion, interference, malign influence, and other tactics that seek to jeopardize our security and stability."

Ano's declaration coincided with an event marking the anniversary of an international ruling that sided with the Philippines against China's claims. He reiterated the Philippines' commitment to peace and dialogue, stating that although China claims over 90% of the South China Sea, Manila will not resort to force. An international tribunal in The Hague in 2016 stated China's claims have "no legal basis," which Beijing has dismissed as null and void.
