Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, took part in the United Nations' Critical Energy Transition Minerals (CETM) Panel in Copenhagen, focusing on the essential role of critical minerals in the global renewable energy shift.

Antonio Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General, inaugurated the CETM Panel, which was first announced at the COP28 climate conference in the UAE in 2023. The panel aims to develop voluntary guiding principles to ensure a just energy transition.

Balalaa engaged in discussions about trade, investment, climate resilience, and protection mechanisms. He stressed the importance of economic opportunities, support for vulnerable communities, and convergence on mutual interests. Additionally, he emphasized multilateral action to address climate challenges, such as water scarcity, and highlighted the importance of a clear roadmap for extractive mineral use.

Balalaa called for fostering dialogue, collaboration, and accessible finance, a key focus for the upcoming COP29 in Baku. He advocated for sustainable and equitable extraction of critical minerals and urged for bold solutions to ensure a just and orderly transition.
