Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh chaired a high-level review meeting of the Central Information Commission, announcing near 100 percent disposal of Right to Information (RTI) appeals and a steady decrease in pending cases over the years.

During the meeting, the Chief Information Commissioner, Shri Heeralal Samariya, provided an update on the Commission's progress to Dr. Singh, marking the first such briefing since the Modi 3.0 government took charge. Dr. Singh, holding this portfolio for the third time, expressed satisfaction with the reduction in RTI dappeal pendency, which has decreased from 35,718 appeals in 2019-20 to 22,666 in 2024-25.

Dr. Singh praised the proactive efforts of the Information Commission in reducing pendency and enhancing the ease of information access for citizens. He emphasized the need to further expedite the disposal process and maintain transparency and accountability in governance, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of citizen-centric governance.

The Minister commended the Commission's exemplary work during the Covid pandemic, highlighting their continuous operation. He also noted the significant benefit to residents of Jammu & Kashmir following the opening of a Commission branch in the union territory.

Shri Heeralal Samariya expressed gratitude for Dr. Singh’s support and highlighted that the Commission now operates from an independent office complex, a development achieved after 2014. He reported that approximately 17,000 second appeals are disposed of annually by the CIC.

Additionally, the CIC conducted a successful training program for nodal officers, Central Public Information Officers (CPIO), and first Appellate officers, focusing on capacity building and compliance with RTI rules and acts. The program received significant participation, enhancing the skills of information officers in drafting replies and providing information.

Dr. Jitendra Singh assured continued support under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership to uphold the principles of transparency and good governance in the functioning of the government.
