In a significant expansion of healthcare services, Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) now encompasses all Indian states and Union Territories, except West Bengal. As announced by Union Health Minister J P Nadda, the scheme has authorized over 8.9 crore hospital admissions nationwide, extending benefits worth Rs 1.26 lakh crore.
The initiative has seen extensive growth with over 10.21 lakh Ayushman cards distributed to ASHAs, Anganwadi Workers, and other beneficiaries. The empanelment now includes 30,957 hospitals, combining public and private establishments, to ensure wide-ranging accessibility.
Recent updates have broadened eligibility, incorporating ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, and their families. Additionally, senior citizens can now avail of treatment benefits up to Rs 5 lakh per annum. The scheme's Health Benefit Package 2022 reflects enhanced coverage by incorporating sophisticated medical procedures and introducing real-time monitoring systems for effective management.
