In a bid to tackle mental health issues among medical interns, Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav announced multiple initiatives implemented by the National Medical Commission.
Students are mandated to attend a 10-day yoga module designed by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, aligning with International Yoga Day on June 21, to enhance mental wellness. Additionally, the MBBS foundation course has incorporated yoga as a proactive approach. Mentorship and village outreach programmes are also aimed at fostering empathy and addressing mental challenges.
The government has further strengthened its efforts with the launch of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy and the National Tele Mental Health Programme, which has seen significant engagement with over 19 lakh calls. Tele-MANAS Mobile Application, launched on World Mental Health Day, offers confidential support, reaching out extensively to students across educational institutions.
