In response to the detection of two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka, the Delhi government has urged its hospitals to brace for a potential increase in respiratory illnesses. Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj labeled the directive as 'Most Urgent.'
The health sector has been placed on alert, with orders to maintain constant communication with the Union health ministry to obtain timely updates on the situation. Hospitals have been instructed to ensure they are fully equipped for any potential spike.
This directive follows confirmation by the Union health ministry that the Indian Council of Medical Research identified two HMPV cases through routine surveillance. The Delhi health department is committed to closely tracking respiratory illness trends.
