Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay have unveiled an innovative device aimed at diagnosing and managing tinnitus, making it affordable for wider use. Tinnitus is a perception of sound without an external source, affecting over 740 million adults worldwide and severely impacting mental health and quality of life.
According to IIT Bombay, the newly developed tool offers a multifaceted approach, providing precise tinnitus matching, customizable treatment, and comprehensive disease progress tracking. This seeks to equip clinicians with advanced diagnostic capabilities while delivering a personalized management plan for patients.
The project received support from Tata Centre for Technology and Design and Wadhwani Research Centre for Bioengineering. The introduction of this device marks a significant step forward in the affordable healthcare solutions sector, particularly concerning conditions with profound social and mental effects.
