Prime Minister Narendra Modi has criticized the governments of Delhi and West Bengal for refusing to implement the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme. Modi has labeled the decision as motivated by 'political interests,' expressing sorrow that elders in these states are denied free healthcare under the expanded program.
Announcing the extension of Ayushman Bharat to all citizens aged 70 and above, Modi assured that seniors across India, except in Delhi and West Bengal, would receive free treatment. Beneficiaries will receive an 'Ayushman Vaya Vandana' card to facilitate their healthcare needs.
Modi made these remarks while unveiling development projects worth over ₹12,850 crore on Ayurveda Day, correlating this policy extension with his election promise to broaden Ayushman Bharat's reach to seniors.
