A suspected militant attack on a health office in northwest Pakistan resulted in the death of one policeman, as polio vaccination teams convened at the location. The incident occurred in Upper Orakzai, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing suspension of vaccination efforts in the region.

Mohammad Zeeshan Khan, deputy coordinator for polio campaigns, confirmed the safety of polio team members. He also mentioned that two militants were killed in the attack. Despite the tragic event, no group has claimed responsibility. Islamist militants have previously targeted polio teams, wrongly labeling the campaigns as Western plots.

The assault coincides with a rise in militant and separatist attacks in Pakistan. Amid this unsettling backdrop, the nation continues its struggle to eradicate polio. Over 45 million children are targeted for vaccination in the ongoing nationwide campaign.
