Two contractual doctors were terminated, and two others were suspended at a government medical college following the death of a five-year-old girl due to lack of treatment, an official stated on Friday. Allegations have surfaced that the doctors were preoccupied with a cricket game instead of attending to the patient.
The principal of the college, Dr. Arun Kumar, said a committee of three members was constituted on Wednesday, which delivered its report by Thursday evening. The findings confirmed that during the incident, several doctors were at the cricket grounds, neglecting their professional duties. Consequently, the college administration imposed strict disciplinary measures on those responsible.
The college terminated the services of Dr. Shalabh Vaish, Head of the ENT Department, and Dr. Divyanshi Sharma, a Junior Resident in the same department, for gross negligence. Both had contractual agreements. Additionally, Dr. Abhishek Sharma from the ENT Department and Dr. Imran from Pediatrics have been suspended for one month each.
