Healing Wounds of War: Ukrainian Medical Heroes Transform Lives
Yana Zalevska, a Ukrainian soldier wounded by a Russian drone, is one of many receiving free treatment from a network of aesthetic specialists. The initiative, led by the volunteer organization Unburned, aims to improve the quality of life for heavily scarred troops and civilians amid ongoing warfare.
Ukrainian soldier Yana Zalevska once planned to undergo plastic surgery for aesthetic reasons, but the course of her life changed dramatically following a Russian drone attack. Striking her dugout in eastern Ukraine, the attack left her with serious injuries to her face and hands.
Zalevska is among over 200 wounded individuals treated by aesthetic medicine specialists across Ukraine through the volunteer organization Unburned. Treatment is provided free of charge to those scarred by the ongoing conflict with Russia, which has left thousands facing life-altering injuries.
The CEO of Unburned, Maksym Turkevych, explains that their work is not just about appearance, but also the overall quality of life. As the fighting continues to claim more lives, efforts like these provide crucial physical and psychological support to soldiers and civilians alike.
