In West Bengal, junior doctors have continued their hunger strike for the 16th consecutive day, demanding justice for a colleague who allegedly fell victim to rape and murder at RG Kar Hospital. The incident has amplified their call for systemic changes within the state's healthcare structure.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged the doctors to withdraw from their indefinite fast, pledging to address some of their concerns during talks. Banerjee has met some demands, removing key health officials, but resisted pressure to dismiss the state Health Secretary.
The doctors remain steadfast, planning a wider strike across West Bengal if their demands aren't met, with a major rally scheduled. Six doctors have already been hospitalized due to health issues stemming from the hunger strike.
